American University of Beirut moves classes online amid regional tensions after Iranian threats
The Iranian threat to target American universities in the region continues to react, following American and Israeli strikes that destroyed two universities in Iran.
While the American University of Beirut emphasized that there are “no indications of a direct threat to the university, its campuses, or its medical centers,” President Joseph Aoun assured the university’s president, Dr. Fadlo Khuri, of “the state's commitment to the security of all educational institutions, especially the American University.”
Aoun also emphasized that “the security measures implemented in the capital also cover Lebanese and foreign educational establishments.”

As a precautionary measure, the administration of the American University of Beirut (AUB) issued a statement to faculty and students on Sunday, announcing “the adoption of remote learning on Monday and Tuesday, with exceptions for essential staff, and that in-person educational activities and exams will be suspended on these two days,” affirming that the safety of “the university community remains the top priority.”
