Macron backs Lebanon ceasefire extension and calls for regional de-escalation

The French president reaffirmed support for Lebanon’s stability, announced plans for an international reconstruction conference, and urged a political settlement between Lebanon and Israel to ensure lasting security and peace in the region.

French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed today, Thursday, his support for extending the ceasefire in Lebanon and called for a “lasting peace that respects Lebanon’s unity and sovereignty.”

 

Macron also reiterated his promise that France will organize a conference to support Lebanon and help rebuild the southern regions, which have been devastated by ongoing Israeli attacks.

On regional developments, Macron stressed France’s support for Gulf countries that have been exposed to Iranian attacks, emphasizing the need to protect freedom of navigation. He also called for respect for international law and for calming tensions and de-escalation in the region.

 

In a related context, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that “the only path to stability in Lebanon and the region is a political agreement between Israel and Lebanon that guarantees the security of both countries.” It added in a statement: “The ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel should be expanded to allow for the beginning of a genuine dynamic toward stability.”
