French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Tuesday that he held phone calls with US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, calling for the resumption of negotiations that had been halted in Islamabad.

"The [ceasefire] agreement must also include Lebanon."

Macron stressed the “need to clarify ambiguities and avoid any new escalation,” affirming that “strict commitment to the ceasefire by all parties is essential, and that this agreement must also include Lebanon.”

He also called for the “unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz without any restrictions or fees, as soon as possible,” considering that “the availability of these conditions would allow negotiations to resume quickly with the support of the relevant parties.”

International conference

In a related context, the French president indicated that “France and the United Kingdom will host, on Friday in Paris, a video conference bringing together countries not involved in the conflict, to discuss the formation of a multilateral mission of a defensive nature aimed at restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait when security conditions allow.”

The US maritime blockade decision targeting ships entering and leaving Iranian ports came into effect on Monday morning, while an Associated Press report mentioned the possibility of a second round of talks.

The French president and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer are expected to chair a video-based international conference on Friday to discuss maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, with the participation of countries willing to join a multilateral defensive mission aimed at restoring freedom of navigation in this vital sea route when security conditions permit.
