Axios has reported, citing informed sources, that Iran told mediators it had been "deceived twice" by US President Donald Trump, emphasizing that it would not accept a third occurrence.

According to the sources, Tehran expressed doubts about the seriousness of the US proposal for dialogue, noting that the deployment of American military reinforcements in the region reinforces the belief that Trump’s initiative might be merely a maneuver.

On the other hand, sources in the White House said that the US administration had communicated to Iran through mediators the seriousness of President Trump in the negotiations, pointing out that the possibility of the Vice President participating in any upcoming talks was offered as further evidence of this seriousness.

The website also reported that US envoy Steve Witkoff recommended involving the Vice President in the negotiations, given his official position and the fact that Iran does not consider him a hardliner.

In the same context, a White House official said that the option of conducting a ground operation inside Iran is still on the table, but Trump has not made a final decision on the matter yet.

The official added that the US President remains optimistic about the possibility of reaching an agreement, noting that a potential meeting in Pakistan is still under consideration without a final decision.

He pointed out that Iran’s current priority is to stop the bombing, while Washington seeks to extract concessions that Tehran had previously rejected in earlier rounds of negotiations.
