Syria courts international investment, prioritizing digital and mobile transformation
Syrian Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Abdul Salam Haykal, announced that the coming weeks will see announcements of new investments in Syria's digital infrastructure and mobile phone networks, noting that this sector represents a major investment focus.
Haykal explained, in an interview with Annahar on the sidelines of the 2026 World Government Summit in Dubai, that the investment will translate directly into improved services for the people. The planning process has already begun and the coming weeks will occasion the start of implementation for a number of these projects.
On promoting new Syrian companies and telecommunications services, Haykal emphasized that the goal is to reach an active market comprising companies capable of providing high-quality services. He stressed that Syrian citizens possess great potential, ambition, and exceptional capabilities, all that is required is strong infrastructure.

He pointed out that the Internet is no longer a secondary issue in people’s lives, but a fundamental right, explaining that for most people today, losing connectivity can be more difficult than losing any other service.
Minister Haykal explained that work is being carried out on two levels: an immediate, short-term track aimed at improving services as much as possible under the current conditions, and a long-term initiative focused on building a flexible infrastructure capable of expanding and meeting future needs.
He concluded by saying that this is what Syrians deserve, and this is what is being worked on.
The second day of the summit continues in Dubai, with participation from a large number of countries and decision-makers.
