Following her rising journey, we had a special conversation with her about the phenomenon she has created, her vision for fashion, and her confidence in representing Muslim women in this field.

Who is Samia Benchaou?

Samia Benchaou, a styling expert and content creator based in Copenhagen, entered the world of social media in 2019 after recognizing the significant potential these platforms offer, viewing them as more than just entertainment and instead as spaces that can evolve into true platforms of influence. She explained to “Annahar” that her audience’s engagement stems from her breaking many preconceived notions, especially among those who are less familiar with the world of modest fashion. She noted that the image of a hijabi woman presenting herself in an elegant, modern, and diverse way was enough to spark the curiosity of many, adding that followers also respond to the positive energy she strives to convey and to her commitment to her individual identity.

Speaking about fashion, she emphasized that for her it is a space for self-expression and a form of art, noting that the way a person dresses can convey messages about their character and self-confidence even before they speak. She added that style does not determine a person’s worth, but it reflects an important aspect of their presence and identity.

About her presence as a hijabi woman in this field, she asserted that she has never felt the need to change her personality or diminish her presence to meet others’ expectations, clarifying that she enters any space as she is, relying on confidence rooted in her beliefs and values.

Samia Benchaou praises Lebanese designers

Regarding modest fashion in the Gulf and the increasing number of specialized events such as Modest Fashion Week in the UAE, she noted that she attended only one event in Dubai, which means she needs to follow more experiences before forming a comprehensive opinion. At the same time, she praised the creative vibrancy in the region, especially commending Lebanese designers and considering them an important presence in the Middle Eastern fashion scene.

About age and confidence, Benchaou, who is now forty-four, said she feels more comfortable and confident than at any previous stage, explaining that life experiences give a person strength and maturity that are not tied to youth. She added that true confidence stems from within, from knowing oneself and holding onto one’s truth, independent of others’ judgments.

She also felt that her success carries a message to an industry that often sidelines women after forty, questioning the constant obsession with youth. She pointed out that aging and “gray hair” are viewed in Islamic culture as signs of blessing, wisdom, and experience.

Samia Benchaou sends a message to Muslim women worldwide

She sent a message to young Muslim women, urging them not to underestimate themselves, affirming that the neglect of some spaces for their presence does not mean a lack of opportunities, as new, fairer spaces can be created and represented. She also addressed the fashion world, stating that the Muslim market is broad and influential, and that its presence and needs can no longer be ignored.

Samia Benchaou’s experience summarizes the journey of a woman who has established her presence through her unique style, presenting a different model that proves elegance is not bound by age, and that confidence begins when a woman chooses to define herself on her own terms.
