French President Emmanuel Macron will receive Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam next Tuesday at the Élysée Palace, according to an announcement by the French presidency today.

The visit comes amid ongoing security tensions between Hezbollah and Israel, despite the enforcement of a 10-day ceasefire agreement, and during a severe economic crisis, as well as the killing of a French soldier and injuries to three UNIFIL members in southern Lebanon last Saturday.

Macron had expressed his concern about the threat to the ceasefire and called for guaranteeing the security of UNIFIL forces, while Salam ordered an immediate investigation into the incident.

The Élysée Palace confirmed: "This visit will be an opportunity for the Head of State to reaffirm his commitment to the full and comprehensive respect for the ceasefire in Lebanon, France's support for the country's territorial integrity, and the Lebanese state's efforts to ensure the complete and comprehensive sovereignty of the country and the monopoly on arms."

The meeting is expected to focus on supporting the Lebanese army, ensuring the implementation of the ceasefire agreement, and urging the Lebanese government to expedite economic reforms in preparation for an international reconstruction conference.

The media office of Salam had stated that "at the invitation of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Ms. Kaja Kallas, President Salam will travel to Luxembourg to meet EU foreign ministers on Tuesday," before heading to Paris for a meeting with the French President.
