A senior Israeli source told Channel 12 that the decision has not yet been made and will be studied tonight during a cabinet meeting. Meanwhile, the Israeli website Kipa indicated that the ceasefire is likely to begin tonight in Lebanon.
However, the Israel Defense Forces announced, through the Israel Public Broadcasting Corporation, that the ceasefire decision is issued by the political leadership, and that it is “continuing its operations as usual until another decision is made.”
However, reports indicate that the Israeli army has already begun preparing for a “stop” signal from the political level, and has accelerated plans that may be frozen in the southern Lebanon area.
Saudi Arabia's involvement
In parallel with the official Lebanese efforts, Saudi Arabia aims to play a role in ending the war in Lebanon. This is reflected in the reception, at Saudi Arabia’s request, of an envoy from the Speaker of the Parliament, Nabih Berri, in Riyadh, to discuss the progress of a ceasefire agreement.
This comes after direct talks between the Israeli ambassador to the United States, Yehiel Leiter, and the Lebanese ambassador to Washington, Nada Hamadeh Moawad, held at the U.S. State Department headquarters.
The Lebanese ambassador to the United States called for a ceasefire during this preliminary meeting, which was described as positive.
Meanwhile, the Israeli ambassador praised the “excellent discussion” with the Lebanese side, noting that Israel and Lebanon have become “on the same side,” according to his statement.
