The two sides stressed the need to keep diplomatic efforts going in order to restore stability to the region.

Earlier, a report by Axios said that the talks held on Saturday between the United States and Iran in Pakistan collapsed over disagreements on how much Iranian funds Washington should release, as well as over control of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to an Axios correspondent citing a US official, Washington’s demands to Tehran were seen as firm red lines. These included halting uranium enrichment, removing enriched material from Iran, dismantling its facilities, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, scrapping transit fees, reaching a regional security agreement, and ending Iran’s support for allied groups.

A source familiar with the talks said differences remain between the two sides over the amount of Iranian funds to be released.
