Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi warned on Monday that U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats to strike power plants and bridges in Iran could amount to war crimes.

He wrote on X that the U.S. president, the highest official in his country, had openly threatened to commit war crimes, referring to provisions in international law that such attacks would violate.

He added that threatening to attack power plants and bridges, which are civilian infrastructure, constitutes a war crime under Article 8(2)(b) of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

On Sunday, Trump threatened to bomb Iran’s bridges and power plants on Tuesday unless it reopened the Strait of Hormuz.

This threat prompted a similar warning from Iran, as the country’s central military leadership cautioned today that there would be a “more destructive” response if civilian targets were attacked again.
