Trump says U.S. may withdraw from NATO over lack of support against Iran
U.S. President Donald Trump told the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph that he is seriously considering withdrawing the United States from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization after allies failed to support U.S. military action against Iran.
The newspaper reported that Trump described the alliance as a "paper tiger" and quoted him as saying that the issue of the United States withdrawing from the defense agreement has "gone beyond the stage of reconsideration."

He added that he has long had doubts about the credibility of the NATO.
Trump told the newspaper, when asked whether he would reconsider the United States’ membership in the alliance after the war, "Yes, I would say the matter has gone beyond the stage of reconsideration."
He added, "I have never been convinced by NATO. I have always known it was a paper tiger, and Russian President Vladimir Putin knows that as well, by the way."
