How do birds stay warm in winter?

From sparrows in our gardens to seagulls by the shore, Lebanon’s birds show us the magic of survival, warmth, and song throughout the seasons.

Fahim:

You may wonder, my friends…

How can birds stay warm despite the freezing cold?

They fluff up their feathers to trap warm air, like tiny quilts,

They search for sheltered places, like trees,

And gather together to share warmth,

Just like I do, the rooster of Annahar,

When I gather with the hens at night to stay warm.

And finally, birds don’t forget to bask in the sunlight!

But, did you know that some birds stay in Lebanon all year and do not migrate?

Come, let's get to know them!

The sparrow, a small bird that lives near houses and gardens.

The bulbul, known for its beautiful song, sings all year round.

The wild pigeon stays in cities and villages and moves in groups.

The crow, a bird with a yellow beak, prefers to stay in one place and does not like to move unless absolutely necessary.

Have you heard the pecking? It's the woodpecker tapping tree trunks or utility poles to make its home.

And on the shore, we see the seagull flying over the sea, searching for fish.

These birds stay with us in Lebanon during both summer and winter.
