Putin sends Nowruz greetings to Iran and regional leaders, affirms strong ties
The Kremlin reported on Saturday that Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Iran’s leaders on Nowruz and affirmed that Moscow remains a loyal friend and a reliable partner to Tehran.
The Kremlin’s official statement also noted that Putin wished the Iranian people strength to overcome these difficult trials.

Putin also extended his Nowruz greetings to the leaders of six countries.
The list of leaders who received his congratulations included:
- Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
- Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
- Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov.
- Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.
- Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedow.
- Chairman of Turkmenistan’s Halk Maslahaty (People’s Council) Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov.
- Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
In his messages to these leaders, Putin highlighted the high level of bilateral relations between Russia and these countries, expressing his confidence that strategic partnerships and multifaceted ties will continue to grow and prosper in the coming period.
Nowruz, which means “new day” in Persian, is the Iranian New Year. It is celebrated by peoples across Central Asia, the Middle East, and the Caucasus on March 21 each year, coinciding with the spring equinox.
