A Syrian delegation, headed by Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani and head of General Intelligence Hussein Salameh, is participating in the current round of negotiations with Israel, under U.S. coordination and mediation.

According to a government source cited by SANA, the resumption of these negotiations underscores Syria’s unwavering commitment to reclaiming its non-negotiable national rights.

The source revealed that the talks are primarily focused on reactivating the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, and ensuring the withdrawal of Israeli forces to their positions before December 8, 2024, within a balanced security framework that places full Syrian sovereignty above all else and guarantees the prevention of any form of interference in Syria’s internal affairs.

The American news site Axios reported yesterday, citing an Israeli source, that Syrian and Israeli officials will meet in Paris to resume negotiations. The source noted that the Israeli delegation will be headed by Israeli ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter, replacing Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, and will include Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s military advisor.

According to the Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, the talks are resuming after a two-month hiatus, following an agreement to restart them during a recent meeting between Netanyahu and Trump at his private Mar-a-Lago resort.
