Foreign Minister and Expatriates Youssef Raggi received the Chargé d’Affaires of the Syrian Embassy in Lebanon, Iyad Al Hazzaa, who delivered a message from Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani.

The meeting touched on the latest developments in Lebanon and the region. Al Hazzaa explained that the military buildup on the border with Lebanon is simply a measure aimed at strengthening border control, reducing smuggling, and safeguarding Syrian internal security, similar to the measures implemented on the Syrian-Iraqi border.

Raggi emphasized the importance of maintaining the new chapter in relations between the two countries, based on the principles of respecting each nation’s sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs, while appreciating the official Syrian position on the matter.

He emphasized the need to continue addressing the outstanding issues between Lebanon and Syria, foremost among them the case of Lebanese missing persons in Syrian territory, the demarcation of the shared border, the Syrian displacement crisis, and the matter of Syrian detainees in Lebanese prisons.
