In a decision issued by the Cabinet, Salam declared the "immediate ban on Hezbollah’s military and security activities, as they are considered illegal, and obligated it to hand over its weaponry to the Lebanese state. The government requests military and security agencies to take immediate action to implement this decision.”

The speech comes on the heels of Hezbollah's decision to break with the Lebanese state and launch rockets toward Israel—an act described as a violation of Lebanese sovereignty and a threat to national security.

Lawyer Dr. Adel Yammine told Annahar that the designation means such weapons are considered unlicensed by the state. Former Minister Rashid Derbas, concurred, telling Annahar that the term “illegal” is self-explanatory and implies that Hezbollah members carrying weapons would be subject to prosecution.
