Putin Expresses 'Steadfast Support' for New Supreme Leader in Iran
Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed on Monday 'steadfast support' for Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, following his election as the new Supreme Leader of Iran, succeeding his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was assassinated at the beginning of the American-Israeli attack on Tehran at the end of February.
Putin said in a message to Khamenei's son: 'I want to confirm our steadfast support for Tehran and our solidarity with our Iranian friends,' emphasizing that 'Russia has always been and will remain a reliable partner.'

The Russian president noted that 'at a time when Iran is facing military aggression, assuming this high position undoubtedly requires great courage and dedication.'
The Assembly of Experts in Iran announced on Sunday the election of Mojtaba Khamenei as the new Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic.
This came hours after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened that any new leader chosen by Iran without his approval 'won't last long.'
Israel preempted the selection of the new leader by threatening that any successor to Khamenei 'would be a confirmed target for assassination.'
