Saiid Kobeisy’s Passage Privé: Couture's journey through memory, craftsmanship, and elegance

In the collection Passage Privé, Lebanese global designer Saiid Kobeisy transformed the journey through a private passage into a couture language told through luxurious fabrics and handcrafted embroidery, evoking the elegance of the early twentieth century with a contemporary vision that bears his unmistakable signature.

Creations carrying a unique story

Amid the excitement surrounding Paris Haute Couture Week last week, Saiid Kobeisy chose to step away from the noise and tell a different kind of story. In his private showroom, the Passage Privé collection was not merely a series of luxurious gowns waiting to be discovered, but creations where each piece carried its own narrative. Every line drawn on the fabric was intentional, designed to guide the eye towards a new chapter titled transformation, identity, and timeless elegance.

Kobeisy did not present a nostalgic interpretation of the past. Instead, he reinterpreted one of the richest periods in the history of fashion and the arts, proving that true haute couture does not live only in memory, but can be revived through a contemporary approach.

When the private passage becomes a source of inspiration

Saiid Kobeisy chose the name Passage Privé, meaning “private passage,” to reflect the concept behind the collection. Not every journey is measured by the number of kilometres travelled, but by the impact it leaves on a person. From this idea, the designs emerged as though they were successive stops on a journey where perception changes with every step and identity gains new dimensions with every transition.

The designer drew inspiration for the collection from the elegance of the early twentieth century, a period when craftsmanship flourished, haute couture reached exceptional levels of refinement, and the world was opening up to cultural and artistic exchange. This historical reference became the foundation for a modern vision that preserves the spirit of that era without being confined by it.

This is why we felt that every look concealed an entire world behind it, and each design revealed a new layer of the story, while part of its beauty remained in the details that are left unspoken, only to be discovered through moments of contemplation.

Saiid Kobeisy’s Signature: A Quietness That Precedes Luxury

What distinguishes Saiid Kobeisy’s style from other haute couture designers is his ability to create luxurious fashion without excess. He does not rely solely on the density of embroidery to captivate the eye. Instead, he builds each piece through precise design architecture, giving it an elegant presence even before the embellishments appear.

In this collection, the silhouettes maintained the architectural structure that has distinguished his work for years. The long coats evoked the elegance of classic tailoring, while the kimono inspired sleeves brought lightness and fluidity to the movement, serving as a subtle reference to the idea of travel and cultural exchange.

Those who observe the details of the designs will notice that every element has a purpose, and every curve has a reason that reinforces the central idea from which the collection emerged.

The Luxury of Fabrics: When Fabric Becomes the Hero of the Design

If the silhouettes were the foundation of the collection, the fabrics were its true essence.

Saiid Kobeisy relied on a selection of the finest materials that embody luxury. Velvet brought richness and classic elegance to the designs, alongside double satin, crepe, crepe georgette, and metallic French lace, as well as fur and feathers, which appeared as elements that enhanced the craftsmanship and beauty of each piece.

The colour palette appeared in harmony with the overall concept of the collection, dominated by shades of ivory, creamy white, soft pink, serene green, bronze, and delicate blue. These colours seemed as though they had been drawn from old photographs that had regained their radiance, giving each design a sense of understated elegance.

Perhaps ivory was the most prominent shade, serving as the canvas upon which the stories were woven, with some pieces appearing as though they carried traces of time embroidered onto the surface of the fabric.

Embroidery as an Art Form in Its Own Right

In haute couture, the value of a piece is not measured by the number of stones or beads it contains, but by the number of hours required to create it, a principle that was clearly reflected in the Passage Privé collection.

The handcrafted embroidery featured intricate details inspired by the geometric motifs of Art Deco, along with patterns drawn from the art of ornamentation, which became renowned in luxurious European fashion.

These decorative embroideries enhanced the design lines and gave each piece a distinctive touch. Some creations required long hours of continuous handwork to achieve their intricate details, reflecting the level of craftsmanship that the fashion house is committed to preserving.

The embroidery also captured attention as it appeared like fragments of memories scattered across the fabrics in an artistic way that blends heritage with modernity.

A Collection Reflecting Couture Mastery

From the moment visitors entered the showroom in Paris, it was clear that Saiid Kobeisy wanted each design to carry more than one meaning, and for every look to become a new stop on a journey that does not end at the boundaries of fashion but extends to touch upon memory and the identity that distinguishes every individual.

Thus, the Lebanese designer proved that haute couture is not merely about designs created for grand occasions, but a language capable of telling stories and showcasing exceptional craftsmanship.
