Abu Dhabi summer: A season full of experiences, culture, and entertainment
From indoor attractions and cultural landmarks to outdoor adventures and family activities, Abu Dhabi offers a diverse summer programme that goes beyond the heat.
Despite the high temperatures in Abu Dhabi, the summer season in the Emirati city can be described as a rich one, offering hundreds of different experiences, some of which are completely free.
When visiting the websites of the city’s Department of Culture, such as Visit Abu Dhabi, you will find a comprehensive guide to the city and its summer activities that cater to all tastes, from culture and sports to entertainment and family activities. These experiences are promoted under themes such as “A Summer Full of Experiences,” “A Summer Filled with Music,” and “Family Fun This Summer.” Visitors can choose what suits them and start exploring the various experiences on offer.
Instead of the outdoor activities that fill parks and beaches during winter, visitors can look for experiences that suit the high temperatures, ranging from indoor entertainment destinations to museums and water parks, as well as activities that bring evening life back to the Corniche and waterfront areas after sunset.
The journey begins on Yas Island, which welcomes thousands of visitors during the summer season across its entertainment destinations, including Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, and CLYMB Abu Dhabi. Yas Waterworld stands out as one of the top destinations for escaping the scorching sun, offering a refreshing experience with its cool waters.

Entertainment does not dominate the entire scene, as the city also allows visitors to make the most of the summer season through enjoyable cultural experiences, such as visiting museums including the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum, Qasr Al Watan, and Qasr Al Hosn. All of these destinations offer interactive programmes and workshops, many of which focus directly on Emirati culture and heritage.
If you have children and want them to enjoy themselves while gaining knowledge at the same time, you should enrol them in summer programmes, particularly those organised by the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism. Summer camps organised by sports and cultural centres are also widely available, along with destinations that allow children to learn through hands on experiences, such as Emirates Park Zoo and Resort. The destination offers interactive encounters that introduce children to animals, educational shows, and activities such as feeding giraffes and watching sea lions and birds, creating an atmosphere that combines entertainment and learning.

Evenings have a different charm during the summer, especially in outdoor locations. You can wait until sunset, when temperatures begin to drop, to enjoy the natural scenery outdoors at places such as the Abu Dhabi Corniche, Hudayriyat Island, or the waterways. Visitors can go for walks, cycle, have dinner at seaside restaurants, or enjoy marine experiences such as boat tours and kayaking through mangrove forests during sunset hours when the weather becomes cooler.
“Abu Dhabi Summer Sports” is one of the events that strengthens Abu Dhabi’s position as a recognised summer destination. High temperatures have not stopped the city from encouraging a healthy and balanced lifestyle. The festival begins on 6 June and runs until August at the ADNEC Abu Dhabi Centre. The venue offers a fully air-conditioned indoor space covering 48,000 square metres, featuring more than 70 courts for 29 different sports suitable for all age groups.
The summer season also sees remarkable activity in the hospitality sector, with hotels launching summer stay offers targeting families. Visitors can take advantage of packages that combine accommodation with access to entertainment parks or private beaches, in addition to restaurant and shopping centre offers that coincide with the holiday season.
This year, the season is more diverse and activities are broader than ever before, so do not miss out.
