US media outlets reported on Thursday that Israel shared intelligence with the United States this week regarding a new and specific Iranian plot to assassinate President Donald Trump.

The reports come amid renewed exchanges of attacks between the United States and Iran, which have raised fears of a return to full scale war. They also follow Trump's unexpected use of an older presidential aircraft to depart Türkiye after the conclusion of a North Atlantic Treaty Organization summit.

CNN, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter, reported that Washington had been monitoring "a steady flow" of intelligence regarding a possible plot to assassinate Trump, but said that "the Israeli warning was new and concerned a specific plot."

The Wall Street Journal also cited unnamed sources as saying that the intelligence described a "new" plot.

For years, Tehran has vowed to retaliate against Trump over his order during his first presidential term in January 2020 to assassinate Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

When Agence France Presse contacted the White House about the reports, an unnamed official referred to remarks made by Trump on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters aboard the presidential aircraft Air Force One while returning from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization summit, Trump said, "They want to eliminate the American leader, meaning me. I saw this morning that I'm on every one of their lists."

Trump departed Türkiye aboard the older presidential aircraft, while the newer plane, a gift from Qatar, had been sent ahead to the United Kingdom, where he switched aircraft before continuing his journey to Washington.

The decision to switch to the new aircraft, which was making its first overseas trip, sparked speculation that the move was prompted by concerns over inadequate security measures, particularly as the United States had launched new strikes against Iran, which borders Türkiye.

The New York Times reported late on Wednesday that the aircraft transfer was carried out at the request of the US Secret Service as a precautionary security measure.

At a press conference, Trump declined to answer questions about safety concerns but referred to previous alleged Iranian assassination plots targeting him.
