Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani discussed, during a phone call he received from his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, “the latest developments in the military escalation between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran over the past two days.”

The Qatari Foreign Minister expressed Doha’s “condemnation and rejection of the attacks that targeted commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, despite the atmosphere of de-escalation and the efforts being made to reduce tensions in the region.”

He stressed that “such actions would undermine confidence, threaten the security of international navigation, and harm efforts aimed at consolidating regional security and stability.”

He also stressed “the need for all parties to commit to dialogue and diplomacy and to implement the understandings reached within the framework of the memorandum of understanding, in a way that contributes to maintaining regional security, preserving the gains achieved, and strengthening regional stability.”

During the call, the Qatari official reiterated “the State of Qatar’s support for all efforts aimed at containing the escalation and reaching a comprehensive agreement that contributes to consolidating security and stability and achieving lasting peace in the region.”

The United States launched new strikes on Iran on Wednesday night, while the Iranian Revolutionary Guard responded on Thursday, announcing that it had targeted US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain.

In Qatar, residents also received a brief security warning.
