Macron said in a post on the platform “X” following his arrival: “I came to reaffirm France’s commitment to standing alongside the Syrian people in order to support a sovereign and united Syria, with its diversity, and one that enjoys peace with its neighbors.”

The delegation accompanying Macron includes investors and representatives of French companies, with the aim of strengthening economic cooperation.

This is the first visit by a French president since 2009 and reflects the strengthening of Syrian French relations based on mutual respect and equal partnership. Al Sharaa visited France in May 2025 at the invitation of his French counterpart, according to the SANA news agency.
