Macron holds talks with Al Sharaa as France deepens ties with Syria
The French president’s first visit to Syria since 2009 includes talks on bilateral cooperation, regional developments, and investment opportunities.
Syrian President Ahmed al Sharaa received French President Emmanuel Macron today, Tuesday, at the People’s Palace in Damascus.
The talks between the two sides are focusing on prospects for bilateral cooperation in various fields, as well as developments in regional and international affairs.
Macron and his accompanying delegation arrived in Damascus yesterday, Monday, on an official visit to Syria.

This is the first visit by a French president since 2009 and reflects the strengthening of Syrian French relations based on mutual respect and equal partnership. Al Sharaa visited France in May 2025 at the invitation of his French counterpart, according to the SANA news agency.
