Trump Claims Iran Seeks Settlement with US Amid Tensions

US President Donald Trump renewed his assertions that Iran is seeking a political agreement with Washington, while also claiming Tehran has been defeated and warning of a “communist” threat within the United States ahead of future elections.

US President Donald Trump once again spoke about America's greatness on the occasion of the country's 250th Independence Day.

During a speech delivered today, Saturday, at Mount Rushmore in the state of South Dakota to mark Independence Day, Trump said that the United States "gave Iran one week to halt its operations so it could hold funeral ceremonies for Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei as an act of kindness."

He also said that the Iranians are making every possible effort to reach a political settlement with the United States.

"Threat of Communism"

Trump further claimed that there are "newcomers to the United States who embrace communist ideas that are completely incompatible with the American way of life and economic success." He stressed that "the dispute is not a political one about taxes and regulations, but rather a confrontation with communism, which poses a deadly threat to freedom." He also argued that American identity is facing a "renewed attack from fanatics and extremists within the country.

Trump has repeatedly stated in recent weeks that Iran had agreed to all US demands. He also asserted that Iran had been defeated and would never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon.

It is worth noting that the United States and Iran signed a 14-point memorandum of understanding in mid-June. The two sides then held technical talks in Switzerland followed by negotiations in Doha attended by Qatari and Pakistani mediators to discuss the details of reaching a final agreement.

On another front, the US president said that America had already entered its golden age, but added, "We are still at the starting point." He argued that no other country in the world has made greater positive contributions to humanity than the United States.

Trump also warned against the Democratic Party returning to the White House and to power, saying that if Democrats regained office, they would seek to pass laws and constitutional amendments that would eliminate any chance of Republican Party candidates winning future elections.
