Israel signals indefinite presence in Lebanon “security zones” as withdrawal talks stall
Defense Minister Israel Katz says troops will remain across Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza with no exit timeline, while Israeli media reports delays in a planned pullout from southern Lebanon amid renewed pressure on Beirut to act against Hezbollah.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Wednesday that Israeli forces will remain in the “security zones” in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza without setting any withdrawal timeline. Israeli media also reported a postponement of the so-called “experimental withdrawal” from Lebanon, noting that Israel is demanding immediate action from the Lebanese army against Hezbollah.

Katz stated during a memorial ceremony for soldiers killed in the 2006 war with Lebanon: “The Israeli army will remain in the security zones in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza for an indefinite period to protect our residents and towns from jihadist elements.”
On Iran, he said the option of striking Iran again remains on the table, adding: “We will attack Iran again if necessary.”
The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth quoted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as saying: “We will do everything possible to reach a peace agreement with Lebanon.” He added: “We will stay in the security zone in southern Lebanon as long as needed.”
