Syria announces new People’s Assembly: Full list of Presidential appointees released
Election committee unveils 70-member presidential quota as women’s representation rises and Suwayda seats are postponed amid ongoing transitional electoral reforms.
Mohammad Taha Al-Ahmad, head of Syria's High Committee for People's Assembly elections, announced the names of the members of the Syrian People's Assembly, including the full third appointed by President Ahmad Al-Sharaa in accordance with constitutional powers.
Mohammad Taha Al-Ahmad also stated during a press conference that the first session of the People's Assembly will be held next Monday.

The Syrian Election Committee indicated that among those appointed by Ahmad Al-Sharaa to the People's Assembly are survivors of prisons and relatives of victims of the Bashar Al-Assad regime.
The list of appointees included 15 women, raising the total number of female deputies to 21, after last year’s selection process concluded with only six female deputies.
Regarding Suwayda, the head of the committee said that the selection of deputies for the Druze-majority province has been postponed until “conditions become suitable.”

The announcement comes nearly a year after the issuance of Presidential Decree No. 66 of 2025, which tasked the High Committee for People's Assembly elections with overseeing the formation of electoral bodies and electing two-thirds of the assembly members, with the President appointing the remaining third in accordance with Article 24 of the Constitutional Declaration.
On August 20, 2025, President Ahmad Al-Sharaa issued Decree No. 143 of 2025, approving the provisional electoral system for the People's Assembly.
It set the number of assembly members at 210, with 140 elected and 70 appointed by the President. It also stipulated that electoral districts be formed at the administrative area level and limited candidacy rights to members of electoral bodies.
