Iran Warns It Is Ready for War if U.S. Fails to Honor Memorandum
Tehran says negotiations with Washington will not move forward until both sides fulfill the memorandum of understanding, while also asserting its authority over the Strait of Hormuz and announcing plans for a joint committee on Lebanon.
Iranian Parliament Speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf announced on Tuesday that Iran will not begin negotiations with the United States on a final agreement until the provisions of the memorandum of understanding signed by both countries are implemented.
He said in an interview with state television that "sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz belongs to Iran and Oman, and passage through it takes place according to the arrangements determined by Tehran."
He also noted that Iran is exchanging views with Gulf countries, stressing that "regulating navigation in the strait is our right, and we will not give it up in any way."
Ghalibaf confirmed that "free passage through the strait is limited to sixty days only, in accordance with the memorandum of understanding."
On another issue, he said that "a joint committee will be formed between the U.S., Iran, and Lebanon to monitor the end of the war in Lebanon, and we are seriously following this," adding that there is an "American commitment under the memorandum of understanding to stop the war in Lebanon and ensure its sovereignty."
He emphasized that Iran continues to prioritize diplomacy with the United States but remains prepared for war.
"We continue the dialogue, but if its outcomes are not implemented, we are also ready for war and will respond accordingly," Ghalibaf said.

Iranian Oil Exports
Ghalibaf said Iran was unable to export any oil during the U.S. blockade on its ports, but exports have risen sharply since the restrictions were lifted.
"From the day the blockade was lifted until today, we have exported more than 40 million barrels of oil," he said, adding that "during the previous fifty to sixty days, we were actually unable to export even a single barrel of oil."
