Fourth day of escalation in southern Lebanon as strikes, air activity, and clashes intensify amid ongoing ceasefire violations
Amid claims of 3,200 Hezbollah fighters killed since March, air raids, artillery fire, and reported casualties continue across southern Lebanon as negotiations advance in Washington and tensions remain high on the ground.
Lebanese-Israeli negotiations resume today, Friday, as talks have been ongoing since Tuesday in Washington in an effort to reach a joint “declaration of intent” between the two countries, amid a deadlock over the clause concerning Israel’s withdrawal from southern Lebanon.
In parallel with the negotiation process, the Israeli army is carrying out multiple airstrikes and operations despite the ceasefire, claiming it is “removing a threat against its forces.”
In the latest developments, reports indicate an Israeli airstrike targeting the town of Nabatieh al-Fawqa in southern Lebanon.
The Israeli army also carried out bulldozing and burning operations of houses in Markaba.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army announced that four soldiers were injured with varying degrees of severity on Thursday “during a close-range confrontation with an armed individual” in southern Lebanon.
Israeli Army Radio quoted a source as saying that “the clash took place in Beit Yahoun and a Hezbollah fighter threw a hand grenade and was killed.”
It added that “the army struck infrastructure in Beit Yahoun in southern Lebanon following the clash.”
According to the National News Agency, the explosion of an unexploded ordnance left over from the war in the town of Mansouri resulted in one death and one injury.
Search operations and thermal balloons
At night, Israeli artillery targeted the outskirts of the towns of Baraashit and Beit Yahoun with around 10 artillery shells and carried out two airstrikes, coinciding with search operations using machine guns in the direction of the town of Beit Yahoun.
