Iran discusses Gaza, US talks, and regional diplomacy in call with Hamas official
Tehran reiterates support for Palestinians as it advances indirect negotiations with Washington through regional mediation.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a phone conversation with a senior official in the Hamas movement regarding negotiations between Iran and the United States, according to Iranian state television on Wednesday, amid diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching a final settlement to the war in the Middle East.
Iranian television indicated that Araghchi also discussed the latest developments in the region and Palestine with Bassem Naim, a member of the political bureau of the Palestinian Islamic movement.
The call comes after Iran and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding last week to end the war in the Middle East.
The text of the memorandum does not explicitly mention Gaza, but it stipulates the immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon.

Iran has made the Palestinian issue a central pillar of its foreign policy since the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
Iranian television reported that Araghchi “confirmed during his call the Islamic Republic’s firm support for Palestinians and their just cause, until they achieve their fully legitimate national rights.”
The Iranian foreign minister accompanied President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday during a visit to neighboring Pakistan, which is mediating the talks between Tehran and Washington.
