Qatar and Pakistan announced, in a joint statement issued following the conclusion of the first round of high-level talks at the Swiss resort of Burgenstock, that "encouraging progress" had been achieved in negotiations held with the participation of representatives from the United States and Iran, within the framework of the memorandum of understanding signed in Islamabad.

The statement explained that the summit, held on the shores of Lake Lucerne, took place in a "positive and constructive atmosphere," resulting in an agreement to establish a mechanism for continuing technical talks in the coming days.

The participants also agreed to form a high-level committee to oversee the political mediation process. The main negotiators will report regularly to this committee while leading specialized working groups on nuclear issues, sanctions, monitoring mechanisms, and conflict resolution, ensuring the effective implementation of the memorandum of understanding.

60-day Roadmap

The committee approved a roadmap aimed at reaching a final agreement within 60 days, alongside the immediate launch of technical negotiations. A direct communication line was also established among the parties to prevent incidents and misunderstandings and to ensure the safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Lebanon clause

Regarding Lebanon, the statement revealed an agreement to establish a coordination cell, supervised by the mediators, to disengage conflicts involving the concerned parties and the Lebanese Republic. The measure aims to ensure compliance with the cessation of military operations in Lebanon as stipulated by the memorandum of understanding.

Qatar and Pakistan reaffirmed their determination to continue efforts to maintain a constructive atmosphere throughout the negotiations until a final agreement is reached.

They also expressed appreciation to the United States and Iran for their commitment to diplomatic and peaceful solutions and praised the support provided by friendly and brotherly countries to ensure the success of the negotiation process.

Iranian Foreign Ministry

For its part, the Iranian Foreign Ministry stressed that ending the war should not be limited to a single front but should encompass all conflict zones in the region, including Lebanon. The ministry emphasized that achieving stability requires a comprehensive cessation of military operations and addressing the root causes of tension through political and diplomatic channels.
