Abu Dhabi Ports Group launches new logistics corridor linking UAE and Iraq
Integrated weekly shipping services between Khalifa Port and Umm Qasr Port aim to strengthen regional trade connectivity, improve supply chain efficiency, and expand access to markets across the Middle East, Turkey, and Europe.
Abu Dhabi Ports Group has launched integrated logistics services between Khalifa Port and Umm Qasr Port in Iraq, as part of an initiative aimed at strengthening regional connectivity and supporting trade routes across regional markets.
The new services are designed to meet the growing demand for container and roll on/roll off cargo transportation through direct weekly shipping services connecting the two ports. The initiative is expected to boost trade activity between the UAE and GCC countries on one side, and Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan on the other.
The group stated that the logistics network extends to markets in Turkey and Europe, giving the maritime route a broader reach and further strengthening Khalifa Port’s position as a key hub for regional trade.
Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Ports Group, said in a company statement that the new service enhances regional connectivity by providing diverse trade corridors and integrated logistics solutions that improve supply chain efficiency and expand market access.
The group has also put in place the necessary logistics capabilities at both Khalifa Port and Umm Qasr Port to facilitate storage, cargo handling, and transportation operations. This is intended to ensure smoother trade flows and strengthen long term supply chain resilience, according to the statement.
Abu Dhabi Ports Group has been working for some time to expand its regional logistics networks and develop multimodal transport solutions linking ports with freight centers and inland markets. These efforts form part of a broader strategy to improve the flow of goods through Khalifa Port.
