Macron Supports Lebanese Army in Upcoming Paris Talks
French President Emmanuel Macron announced that he agreed with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam that France will hold talks with Lebanese officials next week to organize a conference in Paris in the coming weeks to support the Lebanese army.

Speaking at the end of the European summit in Brussels, Macron said that support for the ceasefire in Lebanon received unanimous backing, stressing the need to limit Hezbollah’s arms to the state and for Israel to withdraw from Lebanese territories. He expressed support for President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam in their efforts to ensure arms are under state control and to strengthen the role of the Lebanese army. He added that the European Union will mobilize support for the Lebanese army and security forces, and noted an agreement with Salam to coordinate joint efforts with ongoing negotiations in Washington between Lebanon and Israel.
