Israel weighs escalation options in Lebanon after deadly clash with Hezbollah
Military consultations explore strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, intensified southern Lebanon attacks, and potential ground operations amid rising border tensions.
The Hebrew website “Walla” revealed that the Israeli security establishment is holding intensive consultations on how to respond to “Hezbollah” following the killing of four Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon, including the commander of Battalion 52, Lieutenant Colonel Dor Ben Simon.
According to the report, Israel is considering several escalation options, including launching wide strikes on the southern suburb of Beirut, or merely intensifying attacks on targets in southern Lebanon, which might include conducting tactical ground operations to control additional areas.

The site noted a division within the security and military establishment regarding the next phase, as warnings increase about the exhaustion of Israeli forces due to multiple fronts and field missions.
“Walla” quoted a senior security source as saying that Israel rejects any future Lebanese or UN mechanism responsible for security in southern Lebanon, insisting on a mechanism supervised by the United States and coordinated with the Israeli army, while maintaining Israel's freedom to conduct military operations when necessary.
