Trump Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Iran
The United States and Iran have signed a 14-point memorandum aimed at ending hostilities, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, easing sanctions, and launching negotiations toward a comprehensive agreement within 60 days.
US President Donald Trump announced early Thursday the signing of a version of the memorandum of understanding agreed upon with Iran.
Axios reported that the United States and Iran electronically signed a memorandum of understanding to end the war on Wednesday. Citing senior US officials, the outlet said the agreement came into effect immediately after being signed remotely.
According to Axios, President Trump personally signed a copy of the agreement during a dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles. A photo of the signed document was then sent to Iranian officials and mediators.

An American official confirmed that President Trump and his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian, were the signatories to the memorandum.
The White House account on X later published a video showing Trump signing a version of the agreement. The video was accompanied by the caption: "President Donald Trump signed the memorandum of understanding regarding Iran in Versailles, France."
Meanwhile, Iranian state media quoted Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei as saying that the presidents of the United States and Iran had officially signed the memorandum of understanding.
Baghaei noted that negotiating teams are still scheduled to meet in Geneva and said discussions on the mechanism for implementing the memorandum would begin immediately.
He added that oil sanctions imposed on Iran must be lifted and that Tehran should be able to resume oil sales immediately for a period of 60 days. He also stressed that the other party should neither increase its military presence in the region nor impose new sanctions during that period.
On the nuclear file, Baghaei said Iran's nuclear materials would not be sent abroad and that the current option is to reduce the level of enriched uranium.
Regarding frozen Iranian assets, he stated that the United States is committed to removing all obstacles preventing Tehran from accessing its frozen funds.
Iran's official news agency, IRNA, also published photographs showing President Masoud Pezeshkian signing the memorandum of understanding with the United States.

France Commends the Agreement
French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday that the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran to end the war would contribute to lowering energy prices.
In a post on X, Macron wrote: "President Trump signed tonight at Versailles the agreement between Iran and the United States."

Pakistan Responds
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Thursday that the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States would lead to the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz by Tehran and the lifting of the US-imposed maritime blockade on Iranian ports.
Writing on X, Sharif said the memorandum would take effect immediately and that, as a first step, Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz without delay, while the United States would immediately lift the maritime embargo.
He also confirmed that a ceremony would be held in Switzerland on Friday to mark the occasion and launch technical talks.
Agreement Clauses
On Wednesday, the United States published the full text of the interim agreement with Iran aimed at halting the war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Read by a senior US official to journalists, the document consists of 14 clauses outlining a broad framework of understanding between the two sides, while deferring more complex issues — including the future of Iran's nuclear programme — to a final agreement to be negotiated within 60 days.
The document is titled: "Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran."
1. The United States and Iran, together with their allies involved in the current conflict, declare an immediate and permanent end to the war on all fronts, including in Lebanon. They commit to refraining from hostile actions, threats, or the use of force, while ensuring Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity. These provisions will be reaffirmed in the final agreement.
2. Both countries commit to respecting each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity and to refraining from interference in each other's internal affairs.
3. The parties undertake to negotiate and conclude a final agreement within a maximum of 60 days, with the possibility of extension by mutual consent.
4. Upon signing the memorandum, the United States will lift the maritime blockade imposed on Iran and remove related obstacles, completing the process within 30 days. During this period, maritime traffic will gradually return to pre-war levels. The United States also commits to withdrawing its forces from areas surrounding Iran within 30 days of the final agreement.
5. Iran will make every effort to facilitate free passage for commercial vessels between the Gulf and the Gulf of Oman for 60 days. Commercial navigation will resume immediately, subject to the removal of technical obstacles, military barriers, and mines. Tehran will also hold discussions with Oman on the future administration and services of the Strait of Hormuz, in coordination with Gulf states and in accordance with international law.
6. The United States, together with regional partners, commits to preparing a reconstruction and economic development plan for Iran worth at least $300 billion. Details of the mechanism will be finalised within 60 days and incorporated into the final agreement. Washington will issue all necessary licences, exemptions, and permits for related financial transactions.
7. The United States commits to lifting all sanctions on Iran according to a timetable to be agreed upon in the final agreement, including UN Security Council measures, IAEA Board of Governors actions, and all primary and secondary US sanctions. Both sides acknowledge the importance of resolving sanctions-related issues and intend to address them immediately in negotiations.
8. Iran reaffirms that it will not seek to acquire or develop nuclear weapons. Both parties agree to determine a mutually acceptable mechanism for handling enriched nuclear materials, with the minimum option being the reduction of enrichment levels under IAEA supervision. Additional discussions on enrichment and Iran's civilian nuclear needs will take place within the framework of the final agreement.
9. Until a final agreement is reached, both sides will maintain the status quo. Iran will preserve the current state of its nuclear programme, while the United States will refrain from imposing new sanctions or deploying additional forces in the region.
10. The United States will immediately issue exemptions allowing the export of Iranian crude oil, petrochemical products, derivatives, and all related services, including banking, insurance, and transportation, pending the full lifting of sanctions.
11. The United States commits to allowing full access to Iran's frozen or restricted funds and assets. Both parties will agree on the procedures governing the release and transfer of these funds. The assets will be fully available for payments authorised by the Central Bank of Iran, and Washington will issue the necessary licences and permits.
12. Iran and the United States will establish an implementation mechanism to oversee compliance with the memorandum and any future final agreement.
13. Following the signing of the memorandum and after guarantees are provided regarding the implementation of clauses 4, 5, 10, and 11, the two sides will begin negotiations on the remaining outstanding issues.
14. The final agreement will be adopted through a binding resolution of the United Nations Security Council.
