Trump meets Egypt’s Sisi at G7, takes hard line on Iran and regional crises
U.S. president says no investment in Iran, vows nuclear containment, and outlines broader Middle East engagement including Hormuz, Egypt, and Syria discussions.
U.S. President Donald Trump, during his meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on the sidelines of the G7 Summit, stated that the United States will not invest “even 10 cents” in Iran, affirming that Tehran “will not possess a nuclear weapon.”
Trump added that the Strait of Hormuz is “partially open at present and will be fully reopened within two days,” noting that financial markets recorded significant rises following the announcement of the agreement with Iran.
In discussing the agreement, Trump said that “no one knows the details of our agreement with Iran,” while asserting that the United States “has destroyed the navy and army in Iran, and no longer has an air defense.”
He emphasized that “the memorandum of understanding with Iran is not final, and we will resume bombings if they do not adhere to their commitments.”

The U.S. President also addressed the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam issue, noting that he understands its impact on Egypt and that Washington is working to help resolve the crisis.
In this context, Trump reiterated that he has spoken with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa about confronting Hezbollah.
For his part, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi expressed appreciation for the U.S. support for his country and thanked Trump for what he described as “restoring stability in the Middle East.”
