Iran links Lebanon ceasefire to broader US negotiations in Geneva talks

Tehran signals new diplomatic phase with Washington as it ties regional de-escalation, including Lebanon, to nuclear talks and sanctions negotiations.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that “the announcement of the end of the war on Monday morning is considered the most important event in the first phase of the agreement,” announcing that “a new round of USIran talks will begin on Friday in Geneva.”

 

Araghchi added during a press conference in Tehran: “We will discuss the nuclear file and sanctions during the 60-day negotiation period with Washington, and we will also raise the nuclear issue and the lifting of the sanctions in the final phase of the negotiations.”

Regarding Lebanon, Araghchi confirmed that “ending the war in Lebanon is an inseparable part of ending the war in Iran and includes the withdrawal of Israel from Lebanese territory,” stressing that “any military attack by the Zionist entity on Lebanon and the continuation of the occupation would constitute a violation of the memorandum of understanding.”

 

He also stated that “the end of the war in Lebanon is a binding condition for the end of the war with Iran,” noting that “the first party to the memorandum of understanding is the United States and Israel, and the second party is Iran and Hezbollah.
