Israeli airstrike hits Beirut’s southern suburbs as “Dahiya Doctrine” returns amid escalation
Tensions surge after strikes on Ghobeiry mark a rare direct hit on the capital’s outskirts following cross-border exchanges between Israel and Hezbollah.
The escalation returned to the heart of Beirut’s southern suburbs after Israeli aircraft carried out a raid targeting the Ghobeiry area, marking the first direct strike on the suburb following hours of Israeli threats to reinstate the so-called “Dahiya Doctrine.”
Initial information indicated that the raid was carried out with two missiles targeting a building. Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee stated that the army conducted a “precise attack” against what was described as Hezbollah infrastructure in the southern suburb.

The Israeli army said the strike was in response to attacks launched by Hezbollah toward northern Israel, considering the firing of drones and rockets from Lebanon a violation of the ceasefire agreement.

In a joint statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that the army targeted Hezbollah positions in the southern suburbs of Beirut, affirming that Israel “will not tolerate being fired upon.”

The development comes after a day of intense escalation, marked by extensive Israeli raids on southern Lebanon and evacuation warnings issued to dozens of towns, coinciding with statements by Israeli ministers calling for the application of the “Dahiya Doctrine” in response to attacks launched from Lebanon.
