On the eve of the G7 Summit in the French city of Evian, which includes U.S. President Donald Trump, a high-ranking source in the French presidency revealed that President Emmanuel Macron has invited Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, UAE Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, as well as the leaders of India, Brazil, South Korea, and Kenya, to attend the summit.

The source told “Annahar” that the summit will focus on escalating international crises, particularly developments in the Middle East.

Discussions are expected to address the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and related issues, with efforts to reach a common stance among G7 countries and their partners on key demands that could be directed at Iran, including its nuclear program, ballistic missile program, and regional policy.

The presidential official also highlighted the importance of reducing risks to energy infrastructure and exploring measures to mitigate future shocks to global energy markets.

A Maritime Coalition to Resume Navigation

The source noted that, regarding President Trump and the Middle East file, efforts are centered on defining shared objectives, primarily the “reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.”

European partners, he said, are proposing the idea of neutralizing tensions through the deployment of a maritime coalition that would allow navigation in the strait to resume, giving both Iran and the United States room to maintain calm as negotiations continue on core issues.

He added that the aim is to prevent the navigation crisis from becoming an additional factor complicating the ongoing negotiation track between Washington and Tehran.

Gaza and Lebanon on the Agenda

He confirmed that the Gaza and Lebanon crises will be part of the discussions during a lunch gathering between Middle Eastern leaders and G7 leaders. He noted that the French president places special importance on these issues amid escalating military operations, which is raising concern for France and several of its partners.

He added that Macron will also discuss the situation in Lebanon, including the need for a ceasefire and support for the Lebanese army, in talks with Trump during a dinner hosted at Versailles Palace on Wednesday evening, following the conclusion of the summit in Evian.

The event with Trump is being held on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence. According to the French presidency, Versailles Palace was chosen for its historical symbolism in Franco-American relations, as it was the site of the 1783 treaty that established U.S. independence.
