Israel issues mass evacuation alerts in southern Lebanon amid calls to strike Beirut
Tensions escalated after drone incidents near the border, prompting evacuation orders and renewed threats from senior Israeli ministers.
The Israeli army issued urgent evacuation warnings on Sunday morning to residents of 29 towns and villages in southern Lebanon, urging them to leave the specified areas immediately.
The warnings covered the following towns and villages: Al-Zrariyeh, Kfar Bada, Al-Kharayeb, Ansar, Arzi, Braikeh, Mazraat Basafour, Mazraat Al-Yahudiyah, Mazraat Al-Wasta, Mazraat Jamjim, Mazraat Kawthariet el-Rez, Matariyat Al-Shoumar, Kfar Sir, Arki, Bnaafoul, Jbaa, Jarnaya, Houmin Tahta, Houmin Fouqa, Kfar Beit, Kfar Maliki, Kfar Fila, Kfar Shallaal, Ain Bouswar, Azza, Ain Qana, Arab Al-Jal, Sarba, and Roumin.
This development comes as Israeli media reported a fire in the town of Shlomi in northern Israel following the downing of a drone launched from Lebanon, which Tel Aviv said belonged to "Hezbollah."
The Israeli army also announced that it had detected two "suspicious" airborne objects within Israeli territory near the border with Lebanon, coinciding with the sounding of sirens in several northern areas.
Smotrich and Ben Gvir Call for Implementing the 'Dahiya Doctrine' and Targeting Buildings in Beirut
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said on Sunday, in a post on the X platform, that the "Dahiya Doctrine" announced by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should be implemented in response to gunfire directed at northern Israeli towns.
Smotrich stated that "the gunfire towards northern settlements is a test for this doctrine," calling for it to be enforced "firmly and vigorously" through "the demolition of buildings in Beirut's southern suburb today as well."

Ben Gvir: Dahiya "Must Tremble"
Meanwhile, Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir said that Beirut's southern suburb "must tremble in response to each launch conducted from Lebanon."
In a post on the X platform ahead of a meeting with the Israeli prime minister, Ben Gvir said: "I will demand and reiterate my position today in the discussion with the Prime Minister: for every drone, a missile; for every violation, fire; for every drone, Hezbollah must shudder; and for every hair of a soldier's head in the Israeli army, Hezbollah must pay a price in a thousand men."
