Dubai Financial Market gains FINMA recognition as foreign trading platform
Swiss regulatory approval opens direct access for Swiss institutions and enables trading of Switzerland incorporated companies’ securities, reinforcing Dubai’s role as a global financial hub.
Dubai Financial Market has announced that it has received recognition from the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) as a foreign trading platform.
This recognition allows Swiss participants who are subject to its supervision to gain direct access to the trading platform and enables the listing and trading of securities of companies incorporated in Switzerland within the market.
The market has more than 1.2 million investors from 212 nationalities, with foreign investors making up around 85 percent of the total. This reflects an international investor base, and the recognition is linked to expanding it further by opening a direct and regulated channel for Swiss institutions.
This recognition establishes a regulatory framework connecting the two markets and enables transactions between both sides to be executed directly through approved channels.
Dubai Financial Market is regulated by the Securities and Commodities Authority in the United Arab Emirates. The recognition comes within the context of regulatory cooperation with Switzerland under the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) agreements.
Hamed Ali, CEO of Dubai Financial Market and Nasdaq Dubai, told WAM that the recognition enables Swiss financial institutions to access the market and provides the possibility of trading securities of companies incorporated in Switzerland.
He added that this step strengthens the market’s strategy of increasing international investor participation and enhancing Dubai’s position as a gateway linking regional and global capital markets, in line with the emirate’s broader ambitions to develop its financial sector and attract cross border capital flows.
