EU imposes sanctions on IRGC figures and Iranian Oil Export Official Over Hormuz Tensions
Bloc targets naval commanders and trade representatives amid escalating regional maritime tensions and considers expanded Red Sea naval deployment.
The European Union imposed sanctions on Monday on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in connection with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz since the beginning of the American Israeli attack on Iran in February.
The bloc, which consists of 27 member countries, announced that it had added to its sanctions list Mohammad Akbarzadeh, the political deputy of the IRGC Navy, as well as the military command of Hormozgan province in the south of the Iran, which overlooks the vital waterway.

The European Union also announced the freezing of the assets of Hamid Hosseini, a representative of the Iranian Oil Exporters Association, and banned him from receiving an entry visa.
European countries, led by France and Britain, are working on plans to send a naval mission to the Strait of Hormuz immediately after the fighting stops.
The EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said that the naval mission, which is currently deployed in the Red Sea, may take part in the operation.
