Fragile ceasefire under strain as Israel expands strikes and evacuation warnings in southern Lebanon

Despite U.S.-brokered understandings, renewed airstrikes and ground operations deepen fears of a wider escalation across Tyre and Nabatieh regions.

Despite last week's announcement of a “conditional” ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel, brokered by the United States in Washington, Israeli airstrikes and warnings have continued, amid growing fears that the fragile understandings could collapse.

In the latest developments on the ground, the Israeli army issued warnings to residents of Tyre and nearby camps and neighborhoods. Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee stated on X that, “in light of Hezbollah’s breach of the ceasefire agreement, the Israeli army will act strongly against it. Evacuate your homes immediately and move north of the Litani River.”

He added: “We specifically address those in Tyre city and the camps: El-Buss and Zkouk el Mefdi. Everyone near Hezbollah elements and its facilities and weaponry endangers their lives.”

Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes continued on southern towns, particularly targeting Al-Zrariya, Srifa, Habboush, Kafr Roummane, Majdel Zoun, Kfar Tebnit, and Zefta.

Ground Operations on the Outskirts of Nabatieh City

On the ground, Israeli forces carried out operations on the outskirts of Nabatieh city. The Hebrew website “Walla” reported that the Israeli Northern Command chief is pushing to destroy Hezbollah’s infrastructure in Nabatieh, southern Lebanon.

In this context, the Israeli army began ground operations on the outskirts of Nabatieh, according to the same report, and is using robots to detect explosives and Hezbollah cells in the area.

The website further stated that the Israeli army considers the fall of Nabatieh “a quake that will bring down Hezbollah.”

Separately, reports on Saturday indicated that Israeli forces launched a new ground operation, advancing toward Mayfadoun and Kfar Tebnit in an attempt to occupy the hills of Ali Al-Taher.
