Three Lebanese soldiers killed as Israeli strikes intensify despite Washington truce understanding
Escalating Israeli airstrikes, mounting civilian casualties, and the deadly targeting of a Lebanese Army vehicle cast doubt on the viability of a fragile U.S.-brokered ceasefire framework, as diplomatic efforts continue in Washington.
Israeli airstrikes continue to target areas in southern Lebanon despite the announcement of a "conditional" truce agreement between Lebanon and Israel following a round of direct talks hosted by the United States in Washington, amid growing concerns that the fragile understandings could collapse.
In the latest developments, an Israeli strike targeting a military vehicle on the Kfartebnit–Khardali road in Nabatiyeh killed three Lebanese soldiers, prompting the Lebanese Army to describe it as a direct attack on a military unit during a field movement.
In a statement, the army said that an "aggressive barbaric Israeli raid targeted the vehicle, resulting in the martyrdom of two officers holding the ranks of Brigadier and Captain, as well as a soldier."

Latest Strikes: Beirut Condemns, Tel Aviv Justifies
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the attack, describing it as a "blatant violation of Lebanese sovereignty," noting that it comes amid continued escalation despite ongoing diplomatic efforts in Washington.
The Israeli army, meanwhile, acknowledged carrying out the strike, saying it had detected "suspicious movement" in an active combat zone near Kfartebnit before launching the attack, adding that investigations are still underway.
'Hezbollah' and UNIFIL Condemn the Escalation
Hezbollah described the raid as a "heinous crime," considering it a consequence of repeated violations of Lebanese sovereignty and linking it to the course of ongoing political understandings.
UNIFIL, for its part, described the attacks as a "serious violation of Lebanon's sovereignty and Security Council Resolution 1701."
Intensive Strikes and Evacuation Warnings
On the ground, the Israeli army announced that it had carried out strikes on approximately 150 Hezbollah targets over the past 48 hours, including weapons depots, command centers, and rocket-launching platforms in southern Lebanon.
It also issued evacuation warnings for five villages in southern and eastern Lebanon, while Lebanon's National News Agency reported that residents of the town of Maghdoucheh received direct warnings of possible strikes if Hezbollah members were found among the displaced.
Heavy Toll and Civilian Casualties
The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that civilians were killed in intermittent raids, including a nurse and two women, in addition to dozens of injuries, as aerial operations continued across several southern towns.
Washington Negotiations, a Complicated Path
These developments coincide with the fourth round of Lebanese-Israeli talks in Washington, which resulted in a preliminary understanding on a "conditional" ceasefire involving a complete halt to Hezbollah fire and the group's withdrawal from areas south of the Litani River.
At the same time, regional contacts continue through Pakistani mediation between Tehran and Washington, reflecting the growing interconnection between the Lebanese and Iranian tracks in discussions surrounding regional security.
