Trump deal averts strike on Beirut suburbs, but southern Lebanon remains under fire
Residents return to uneasy calm in Beirut’s southern suburbs while Israeli air raids intensify in Tyre, Nabatieh, and other southern towns amid renewed evacuation warnings.
Calm prevailed in Beirut’s southern suburbs on Tuesday following U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of an agreement to halt the Israeli strike on the area, after hours of anticipation on Monday.
The southern suburbs and surrounding areas witnessed a large-scale exodus after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he had ordered the Israeli army to strike targets there.
Despite the U.S. announcement, military operations did not stop in southern Lebanon, where heavy Israeli raids continued on several towns, most notably in Tyre and Nabatieh.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah continued its attacks against Israeli soldiers stationed in the buffer zone inside Lebanese territory.

Israeli Defense Minister warned that Israel would not accept coming under fire without a strong response, threatening to target Beirut’s southern suburbs, a Hezbollah stronghold, if attacks on Israel continued. He added that the Israeli army’s operations inside Lebanese territory would continue regardless.
He said: "The army will destroy all border villages used by Hezbollah in its attacks."
He added: “The Lebanese government and all concerned parties have been informed that attacks on settlements will be met with an attack on the southern suburbs of Beirut.”
The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that “Hezbollah’s continued violation of the ceasefire is unacceptable.”
On Tuesday, the Israeli army renewed its warning to residents of Nabatieh, one of the largest cities in southern Lebanon, urging them to evacuate and move north of the Zahrani River as it escalates its air and ground operations, which it says target Hezbollah.
In a statement, the army said: “To the residents of Lebanon residing in the city of Nabatieh... you must immediately evacuate your homes and move north of the Zahrani River,” reiterating its accusation that Hezbollah’s violation of the ceasefire agreement “forces it to act against it with force.”
Also on Tuesday, the Lebanese Civil Defense announced that it had recovered the bodies of six people killed in an Israeli raid on the town of Marwaniya on Monday night.

The Civil Defense said its teams, following a search operation that began on Monday evening, were able to “recover the bodies of six martyrs and rescue three wounded, who were transferred to the hospital for necessary treatment” after the strike on a residential building in the town, located about 12 kilometers from the city of Sidon.
