Air raids and shelling intensify across Nabatieh and Marjayoun alongside reported diplomatic pressure and a security meeting in Washington.

Developments on the ground in southern Lebanon are escalating at a rapid pace amid simultaneous Israeli escalation involving firepower as well as political and security threats.

On the ground, an Israeli drone carried out an airstrike on the town of Maaroub, targeting a point belonging to the emergency teams of the Health Authority, which according to preliminary information resulted in one fatality and one injury.

In parallel, the Israeli army issued a warning to residents of the town of Ain Qana in southern Lebanon, asking them to evacuate. This escalation adds to a series of warnings and strikes that have targeted southern areas over the past few hours.

In Nabatieh, artillery shelling hit the town of Aaba, while the area surrounding Qal'at al-Shaqif (Beaufort Castle or Belfort Castle) in Arnoun and the Dibbine region were also targeted, in parallel with airstrikes carried out by fighter jets on Arnoun and the Islamic Health Authority center in Deir Qanoun El Nahr in the Tyre district.

Later on Friday morning, Israeli fighter jets intensified their strikes on villages and towns in the Nabatieh district, launching a series of heavy air raids on the towns of Kfar Reman, Zibdin, Ain Qana, Kfar Jouz, Mayfadoun, Habboush, and the vicinity of Jezzine’s Jbaa, in addition to the city of Nabatieh. This came alongside artillery shelling that hit several towns, including Arnoun, Ali Al-Taher, and Kfar Tebnit.

In parallel with the military escalation, direct Israeli threats emerged related to the Qaraoun Dam, after the Israeli army accused Hezbollah of attempting to “target” the dam, warning of a “strong response” and holding the Lebanese state responsible for protecting this vital and strategic facility.

In Marjayoun, residents endured a difficult night as shelling also hit St. George Church and the Sisters’ School.

This escalation comes amid international reports linking the Lebanese situation to the course of regional understandings, as the Wall Street Journal quoted informed sources as saying that Israel is pressing Washington to ensure freedom of military action against Hezbollah under any potential agreement with Iran.

In parallel with the field developments, attention is turning to the expected security meeting today at the Pentagon, which is being held amid the intensifying confrontation in the south and increasing international pressure to prevent a slide into a broader conflict.
