Muqtada al Sadr announces full separation of Saraya al Salam from the National Shiite Movement
The Sadrist leader says the armed group will be fully integrated into the state structure, with affiliated civilian bodies converted into a new institutional framework.
Today, Wednesday, the leader of the National Shiite Movement, Muqtada al Sadr, issued a statement announcing the complete separation of “Saraya al Salam” from the National Shiite Movement and its full integration into the state under the authority of the general official responsible for military formations.

He said: “Based on the public interest and in order to avoid the dangers surrounding the country, it has become necessary for us to announce the complete separation of Saraya al Salam from the National Shiite Movement and their full integration into the state and the general official responsible for military formations.”
Al Sadr’s decision also included directives for the civilian bodies affiliated with the group to transform into the “Al-Bunyan al-Marsous” (The Solid Edifice) Foundation, while stressing that there would no longer be any headquarters, weapons, or entities belonging to Saraya al Salam.
“Saraya al Salam” is the armed military wing affiliated with the Sadrist Movement led by Muqtada al Sadr in Iraq. It was established in 2014 following a fatwa issued by Shiite religious authority Ali al Sistani to confront the control of Islamic State over large areas of Iraq.
