U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio today, Wednesday, offered what he described as a 'new path' for relations between the United States and Cuba, accusing the island's communist leadership of corruption, repression, and theft.

In a televised speech delivered in Spanish to the Cuban people, Marco Rubio said that U.S. President Donald Trump is proposing a new formula for relations with a “new Cuba,” based on redefining engagement between the two countries.

He explained that “Washington has offered $100 million in humanitarian aid, including food and medicine, to be distributed through the Catholic Church and charitable organizations rather than the Cuban government.”

These statements coincide with reports that the U.S. Department of Justice intends to bring charges against former Cuban President Raúl Castro as part of a new escalation in the U.S. stance toward Cuba.
