UAE condemns drone attacks on civilian facilities and Barakah nuclear plant
Foreign Ministry urges Iraq to prevent hostile activities from its territory and stresses respect for sovereignty, international law, and regional security obligations.
The United Arab Emirates on Wednesday strongly condemned the treacherous terrorist attacks carried out using unmanned aerial vehicles coming from Iraqi territory, one of which targeted the Barakah nuclear power plant last Sunday and struck an electrical generator outside the plant’s inner perimeter.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed in a statement the UAE’s strongest condemnation and absolute rejection of the terrorist attacks launched from Iraqi territory targeting vital civilian facilities in the Gulf Cooperation Council states, in flagrant violation of its sovereignty and airspace, and a clear breach of international law, international humanitarian law, and the Charter of the United Nations.
The Ministry stressed the need for the Government of the Republic of Iraq to urgently and unconditionally ensure that all hostile actions launched from its territory are prevented, and the necessity of addressing these threats in an immediate, prompt, and responsible manner in line with relevant international and regional laws and charters.
The Ministry also affirmed the importance of Iraq playing its role in strengthening security and stability in the region, in a way that preserves its sovereignty and enhances its position as an active and responsible partner within its regional environment.
