The Chief Prosecutor for Terrorism Crimes in Bahrain announced that the High Criminal Court issued its verdict today, Tuesday, convicting the defendants of espionage for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps with the intent to carry out terrorist and hostile acts against the Kingdom of Bahrain and harm its interests. The court sentenced them to life imprisonment, imposed a fine of 10,000 dinars, and ordered the confiscation of the seized items.

According to the Bahrain News Agency, the incident dates back to information confirmed through investigations conducted by the General Department of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Evidence, which revealed that Iranian intelligence and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard financed leaders of several terrorist groups that used the Republic of Iran as a safe haven. They were allegedly tasked with monitoring a number of vital facilities in the kingdom in preparation for targeting them in terrorist operations aimed at destabilizing security and stability and undermining the kingdom’s safety and security.

The investigations revealed that the first defendant, who fled to the Republic of Iran, recruited the second defendant in Bahrain to carry out terrorist operations inside the country. He was tasked with transferring and delivering funds intended to support and finance terrorist elements affiliated with the organization, as well as monitoring vital facilities in the kingdom and providing related information to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and intelligence agencies at their request, in preparation for targeting those facilities during the Iranian aggression against the kingdom, according to the agency.

The agency added: “Upon receiving the report, the Public Prosecutor launched an investigation into the incident, interrogated the defendants, heard witness testimonies, and appointed technical experts to examine the seized electronic devices. The examination results confirmed the defendants’ involvement in the charges brought against them. Accordingly, the Public Prosecutor ordered their detention and referred them to the High Criminal Court, which issued its aforementioned verdict during today’s session.”

The case was reviewed over several sessions, during which all legally stipulated guarantees were observed, including the presence of the defendants’ lawyers and granting them the opportunity to present their defense, in full compliance with the fair trial guarantees prescribed by law.
