Amid escalating security conditions in South Lebanon and the ongoing Israeli assaults accompanied by evacuation warnings for several southern towns, notably the coastal town of Ansariyeh where the facilities of the Qasimeyah–Ras al-Ain irrigation project pass, teams from the National Authority of the Litani River have observed a new attack on public property. It involved crisis profiteers and thieves stealing electrical transformers belonging to Electricité du Liban, which were designated to supply the town with electricity.

After dismantling these transformers and unlawfully extracting copper from them, the assailants discarded their remnants and industrial waste into the Qasimeyah irrigation canal belonging to the National Authority of the Litani River, "in behavior that combines theft, vandalism, and pollution.

This constitutes a direct attack on Electricité du Liban's network and public properties, and on the irrigation facilities that provide water for farmers and contribute to food security in Lebanon," according to the National Authority of the Litani River.

The authority considered that “exploiting the circumstances of war and the absence of citizens from their homes to plunder public properties and pollute irrigation facilities reveals a dangerous level of moral decay and disregard for national interests and necessitates the highest levels of pursuit and accountability.”

It also asserted that “protecting public facilities is a collective national responsibility,” calling on “the competent security and judicial authorities to take immediate action to uncover the perpetrators, arrest them, and bring them before the competent court, and to impose the harshest penalties against them, in order to preserve public property and safeguard the public facilities that enhance citizens’ resilience."
