The Syrian President, Ahmad Al-Sharaa, issued new presidential decrees on Saturday that included high-level ministerial appointments.
Decree No. (98) of 2026 appointed Abdul Rahman Badr Al-Din Al-Aama as the Secretary-General of the Presidency. President Al-Sharaa also issued Decree No. (100) of 2026, appointing Khaled Fawaz Zaarour as Minister of Information, and Decree No. (101) of 2026, appointing Basel Hafez Al-Suwaidan as Minister of Agriculture.
Who is Abdul Rahman Badr Al-Din Al-Aama?
📌 He held the position of Minister of Development and Humanitarian Affairs in the Syrian Salvation Government (2018-2021).
📌 Previously served as the Governor of Homs (Appointed in late 2025).
📌 His appointment as Secretary-General of the Presidency succeeds Maher Al-Sharaa, as part of efforts to strengthen the principle of separating family relations from public responsibility.
📌 Academic qualifications: Degree in Veterinary Medicine. Bachelor's in Business Administration. Diploma in Human Resources Management. Master's in Business Administration (MBA).
Who is Khalid Fawaz Zarour?
📌 He served as Dean of the Faculty of Media at Damascus University (Appointed in March 2025).
📌 Supervised more than 100 master's theses and doctoral dissertations during his academic career.
📌 Academic qualifications: Holds a PhD in Media and Communication Sciences (specializing in Electronic Media) from the Lebanese University in 2018. Preparing for a second PhD in Islamic Studies.
Who is Basel Hafez Al-Suwaidan?
📌 Held the position of Deputy Minister of Agriculture before his promotion to the ministry.
📌 Chaired the Anti-Illicit Gains Committee in Syria, working on cases of recovering funds and dismantling economic networks linked to the previous regime.
📌 Academic qualifications: Holds a degree in engineering. Emerged as an expert in management and institutional economics, previously served as the General Manager of "Iktifa," a company specializing in agricultural investment, before transitioning to government work.
